SPRINGFIELD — During their meeting on Jan. 2, 2025, the Springfield School Committee nominated and elected At-Large School Committee member LaTonia Monroe Naylor as their new vice chairperson.
During the meeting, Vice Chairman Joesiah Gonzalez (who represents Wards 1 and 3) and At-Large School Committee member Denise Hurst nominated Naylor.
Following the nominations, Naylor was then elected as the new vice chairperson via a unanimous roll call vote.
“Yes, more than sufficient to vote, this matter passes. Congratulations,” said Mayor Domenic Sarno – who also serves as the School Committee’s chair – following the roll call vote.

Naylor, a Springfield native who has been an at-large member of the School Committee since 2018, will replace Joesiah Gonzalez, who nominated her during the meeting and has chosen not to seek re-election.
In addition to her role on the school committee, Naylor holds the vice-chair role for the Mass Association of School Committees Division 10: Diversity, Inclusive, Equity Committee and is an appointee on the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Racial Imbalance Advisory Council.
