Pilot makes safe emergency landing at Orange Airport

ORANGE — An airplane experiencing landing gear issues made an emergency landing at Orange Airport this morning.

According to the Orange Fire Department, at around 9:34 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, the town of Orange’s dispatch center, Shelburne Control, was notified by Fitchburg Airport personnel that an airplane was experiencing landing gear issues and was going to land at Orange Airport.

In response, the Orange Fire Department dispatched a fire engine to the scene as well as an ambulance, with officers from the Orange Police Department also responding.

Orange Airport personnel provided quick updates to first responders on the pilot’s intentions so units could stage in proximity of the plane’s expected landing location.

The aircraft made an emergency landing on the grass, skidding to a halt without evolving into a crash.
