Marlborough school superintendent Mary Murphy announces retirement

MARLBOROUGH – Mary Murphy, the superintendent of Marlborough Public Schools, will retire at the end of the current academic year, concluding a distinguished 22-year tenure with the district.

Murphy shared her retirement plans during a School Committee meeting on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. She began her career at Marlborough Public Schools at Francis J. Kane Elementary School, and during Tuesday’s meeting, she remarked that joining the district was “one of the happiest days of my life.”

Murphy succeeded Michael Bergeron as superintendent in 2022.

The School Committee is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, January 21, to discuss the process for selecting her successor.
