WARE โ Following a joint investigation by the Ware Police Department and members of the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampshire County District Attorneyโs Office, on Monday, January 13, 2025, Michael Stanikmas, a Ware resident, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Sexual Contact with Animal (two counts)
- Strangulation or Suffocation
- Indecent Assault & Battery on a Child Under 14
- Kidnapping
- Witness/Juror/Police/Court Official, Intimidate
- Assault & Battery on a Family/Household Member (two counts)
- Rape
- Assault & Battery

According to police, Michael A. Stanikmas, 34, is a resident of 219 Babcock Tavern Road, Ware, MA.
Officer Ryan Downing of the Ware Police Department authored a Statement of Facts in Support of Application for Criminal Complaint, which was submitted to the Eastern Hampshire District Court. According to this statement, at around 3:33 p.m., on Jan. 13, 2025, Officer Downing conducted a recorded interview with Stanikmas’ wife at the Ware Police Department, during which she stated the following:
Stanikmasโ wife told police their relationship began in November of 2017.
Stanikmas’ wife stated that they share two children: her biological daughter, and Stanikmas’ son, of whom she is the custodial parent.
Stanikmasโ wife reported the following to police:
- On at least one occasion, Michael inserted his penis into the vagina of the familyโs dog, Josie. Stanikmasโ wife said she was forced to watch this incident. (This articulated one charge of sexual contact with an animal, according to Officer Downing).
- On at least one occasion, Michael inserted three fingers into the vagina of the familyโs dog, Dena. He then placed his penis into her vagina. Stanikmasโ wife said she was forced to witness this incident as well. ย (This articulated an additional charge of sexual contact with an animal, according to Officer Downing).
- Stanikmasโ wife said that Michael strangled her, wrapping both of his hands around her throat, to the point where she couldnโt breathe. โ[Stanikmasโ wife] further advised that incidents similar to this have occurred on approximately five occasions,โ Officer Downing said. - Stanikmasโ wife said that on one occasion in their residence and in her presence, Michael struck his son with two open hands approximately 10 times leaving multiple bruises on the boyโs rib cage area. (This articulated one charge of domestic assault and battery, according to Officer Downing).
- According to Officer Downing, Stanikmasโ wife said that Michael told her on multiple occasions that โif [she] ever took him to court for something, he would destroy [her] to the point that [she] would never get another job.โ Officer Downing added, โ[Stanikmasโ wife] made multiple statements that she feared that Michael was going to kill her.โ (This articulated one charge of witness intimidation, according to Officer Downing).
- Stanikmaโs wife said that on one occasion Michael punched her with a closed fist on the right side of her jaw while at their residence, resulting in a split lip. (This articulated one charge of domestic assault and battery, according to Officer Downing).
- Stanikmasโ wife said that Michael had sex with her while she was unconscious during the Super Bowl. โ[Stanikmasโ wife] fled the scene that evening and was later arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol later in the evening,โ Officer Downing said. On the same day, at approximately 5:22 p.m., a forensic interview of Stanikmas’ wife’s biological daughter was conducted at the Ware Police Department by Trooper Geraldine Bresnahan. During this interview, Stanikmasโ wifeโs daughter โ who is under the age of 14 – disclosed the following:
- On one occasion, Michael was in the kitchen with his wifeโs biological daughter and the two were pretending to hit each other. At one point during the play fighting, the girl said that Michael โgropedโ her when he placed his left hand on her right breast (over her clothing). (This articulated one charge of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14-years-old, according to Officer Downing).
- On one occasion, Stanikmasโ wifeโs daughter said that she saw Michael place his son in a closet in their residence. โHe was held in the closet against his will,โ Officer Downing recounted. โUpon exiting the closet, [Stanikmasโ son] was instructed to eat from the dogโs food bowl.โ (This articulated one charge of kidnapping, according to Officer Downing).
- Stanikmasโ wifeโs daughter said that about a month ago, Michael raised a closed fist at her in the kitchen of their residence. โ[Stanikmasโ wifeโs daughter] was in fear that Michael was going to punch her in the face,โ Officer Downing said. (This articulated one charge of assault, according to Officer Downing).
Following his arrest, Stanikmasโ bail was set at $200,000.
Stanikmas was arraigned in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Following his arraignment, Stanikmas was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, which is scheduled for January 21, 2025.
