Springfield police, bystanders save juvenile from jumping off Memorial Bridge

SPRINGFIELD — At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Springfield police officers were dispatched to Memorial Bridge for “an immediate assist” after dispatch received several calls reporting a female was attempting to jump off the bridge.

According to a statement from the Springfield Police Department, the female – who was later found to be a juvenile – climbed over the railings of the bridge, and nearly a dozen people stopped their cars and attempted to help her.

“Officers quickly arrived and while some civilians held onto the teenager, an officer was able to pull her over the ledge safely onto the sidewalk,” the Springfield Police Department said in a statement. Adding, “She was then transported to Baystate.”
