Two hospitalized after car collides with train in Clinton

CLINTON — Two people were sent to the hospital after a car collided with a CSX Railroad train in Clinton this morning.

According to the Clinton Fire Department, at approximately 6:13 a.m., the Clinton Police and Fire Dispatch Center started receiving calls for a car versus train accident on the railroad tracks on Sterling Street in the area of Depot Square. When the Clinton Fire Department’s Engine 6 and Ambulance 2 arrived on scene, a vehicle was immediately located with major damage to the front end.

After the victims were assessed by EMS, two people were transported to Clinton Hospital with minor injuries.

“At this time, we needed to locate the train engine to check on the engineer,” the Clinton Fire Department said in a statement. “We launched our drone and located the engine approximately one half mile south of the intersection. While looking for the front of the train, we noticed a person walking towards the impact area. The individual was the train engineer, with no injuries.”

The Clinton Police Department as well as representatives from CSX Railroad are in the preliminary stages of the investigation into the accident.
