SUDBURY — Sudbury police and firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident shortly after 8:20 a.m. on March 18, 2025, after receiving a 911 call reporting a student transport van had crashed into a marsh near the intersection of Old Sudbury Road and Water Row.
Upon arrival, officers found the van partially submerged, with two elementary-aged students and the driver still inside.
Sudbury Police Officer Brett Rand waded into the marsh, entering the vehicle to “calm and assess the occupants,” according to the department.

The children appeared unharmed, while the driver sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Firefighters from the Sudbury and Wayland fire departments assisted in safely removing all occupants from the van.
The driver was transported to a local hospital for minor, non-life threatening injuries, while the two students were evaluated at the scene and subsequently released into their parents’ custody.
