Former juror joins Karen Read’s defense team in high-profile murder case

BOSTON — Aidan Kearney, the blogger known as “Turtleboy,” who initially broke the Karen Read story and spent 60 days in jail on witness intimidation charges related to his coverage of the case, reports that Victoria George, a former juror from Read’s first trial, has joined her defense team.

Kearney, who has been a vocal supporter of Read, stated that George was reassigned as an alternate juror on the final day of deliberations after allegedly displaying visible disgust toward the prosecution’s case throughout the trial.

“Just when this story can’t get crazier, Karen Read has added attorney Victoria George to her defense team,” Kearney said on X (formerly Twitter). “Victoria was a juror in the first trial who was made an alternate on the final day, after making faces throughout the trial indicating her disgust with the Commonwealth.”

The addition of a former juror to Read’s legal team is expected to further intensify public scrutiny of the case, which has already drawn national attention.

Karen Read is scheduled to be retried on April 1, 2025, for the alleged murder of her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe. Prosecutors allege that in January 2022, Read struck O’Keefe with her SUV and left him outside in freezing conditions, leading to his death. Read’s defense contends that she is being framed and asserts that O’Keefe was fatally beaten inside the home of fellow officer Brian Albert, where she had dropped him off earlier that evening, before his body was placed outside.
