โ€œUpon arrival, I observed a female that was dancing and doing stretches in the middle of the parking lot entrance,โ€ Officer Larivee said. โ€œI went and spoke with the caller, [name redacted], and Officer [Brett] Bourne responded to the female that was stretching.โ€

The reporting party told Officer Larivee that he and his girlfriend were sitting in his vehicle watching a movie, when the female party later identified as Brittany Singleton came up to the vehicle and was acting โ€œweird.โ€

โ€œ[The reporting party] stated that he didn’t engage with her and called police,โ€ Officer Larivee recounted. โ€œ[The reporting party] stated that Brittany never engaged with him either. When police arrived, Brittany was about 30 feet away from their vehicle.โ€

According to police, Brittany E. Singleton, 35, presently resides in Waltham, MA, but has previously experienced homelessness in Leominster.

โ€œI asked Brittany why she was in the area and she stated that her boyfriend just broke up with her and left her in the parking lot,โ€ Officer Larivee said. โ€œShe told us that her name was โ€˜Erinโ€™ but was hesitant to give her name. Brittany was given the option to call her boyfriend to see if he would come pick her up. Brittany was unable to stand steady on her feet and she wasn’t forming sentences. Brittany asked for assistance in looking for her phone. Officer [Dennis] Hatstat and I looked through her bag and saw her Mass ID. This confirmed her name was Brittany, not Erin. I found her cell phone in the dirt about five feet away from her. Brittany admitted to drinking alcohol today but was adamant that she didn’t take anything else. Brittany’s belongings were scattered all over the flower bed in the parking lot between Popeye’s and Market Basket.โ€

Officer Larivee stated that Officer Hatstat ran Singletonโ€™s information through dispatch, which advised that she had a warrant for assault and battery on a police officer, five counts.

โ€œI told Brittany that she was under arrest for the warrant,โ€ Officer Larivee said. โ€œBrittany was very animated, loud, and kept repeating that she was sober. Officer Bourne was able to gain control of her left arm and I was able to bring her right hand behind her back. Once she was handcuffed, she was using her bodyweight to resist getting in the cruiser. Officer Bourne and I had to lift her feet and put them in the cruiser. When we attempted to close the door, she used her feet to prevent the door from closing. The whole time she was getting handcuffed, she was screaming at officers about the fact she doesn’t have a warrant and that she just went through RCA.โ€

Once Singleton was in the cruiser, Officer Larivee transported her to the Leominster Police Department for booking.

โ€œOnce at booking, Brittany was very uncooperative,โ€ Officer Larivee said. โ€œBrittany continued to yell at officers and was unable to complete booking due to her manic state. Sergeant [Ryan] Morrell didn’t think she was safe in a cell, so he requested an ambulance to transport Brittany to the hospital. While attempting to get her in the ambulance, she refused to lay on the stretcher, and she wouldn’t stay in the seatbelts on the stretcher. Brittany was able to slip her hand out of the handcuffs that were placed on her while in the ambulance. Due to this fact, LFD [Leominster Fire Department personnel] restrained her to the stretcher.โ€

Officer Hatstat stayed in the ambulance with Singleton until she arrived at the hospital.

โ€œOnce at the hospital, Brittany was still yelling about getting a phone call,โ€ Officer Larivee said. โ€œThe hospital security team was on scene with us. Jodi, who is a nurse at the hospital, introduced herself to Brittany and told her that she was going to be her nurse. Brittany requested a phone call and Jodi told her that she couldn’t right now. Brittany became irate and swung her fist, hitting Jodi in the left cheek, knocking her glasses off. Brittany also spit at Jodi. Jodi then took her hand and pushed Brittany’s face away from her so that she couldn’t spit again.โ€

Officer Larivee stated that Officer Hatstat and the hospital security guards held Brittany down, while she secured her feet to prevent her from kicking. She added that a nurse named Sara requested the restraint chair.

โ€œA spit mask was placed on Brittany and she was lifted off of the stretcher onto the restraint chair. Sara was able to administer medications to calm Brittany down once she was in the chair,โ€ Officer Larivee said. Later adding, โ€œJodi had a small mark on her left hand and she stated that the left side of her face was sore.โ€

Singleton was charged with the following:

  • Resist arrest
  • Disorderly Conduct, Subsequent Offense
  • Assault & Battery on Ambulance Personnel (i.e. nurse)

Singleton was arraigned in Leominster District Court on March 17, 2025.

Following her arraignment, she was released on $1,000 bail under the condition that she remain drug and alcohol free.

Her next court date is a pretrial conference scheduled for April 18, 2025.
