Officer Vazquez noted that the vehicle was a 2008 black Jeep Commander with Massachusetts plates. The operator identified himself as Matthew Rowe and denied hitting anything with the Jeep.
According to police, Matthew L. Rowe, 19, is a resident of Ponakin Road in Lancaster, MA.
โMatthew denied impacting anything with his Jeep,โ Officer Vazquez said. โAfter explaining to Matthew that officers observed tire marks on the sidewalk in front of the doors of Dunkinโ Donuts, he confessed to driving over the curb, over the sidewalk, and impacting the doors of the business. When I asked Matthew why he had hit the doors, he replied, โI donโt know…I came in a little too fast…I donโt know how to explain it.โ”
Officer Vazquez said that at the time, Rowe did not seem impaired and was able to articulate himself.
โHe also seemed lucid at the time, which provided no explanation as to why he would drive over a wide sidewalk and into the doors of a building,โ Officer Vazquez said. โI allowed Matthew in his current lucid state to drive off, however, when I returned to the police station, I applied for an Immediate Threat License Suspension in case Matthewโs accident was due to an undisclosed or possibly unknown medical condition.โ
According to Officer Vazquez, at the time of the crash, Dunkin’ Donuts had multiple employees inside the building, and there were three other people riding in the Jeep.
Rowe was charged with:
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
