Newburyport police seek witnesses after pedestrian struck by vehicle in crosswalk

NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Police Department is investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon on Low Street, according to a statement from City Marshal Matthew Simons.

Officers responded to 232 Low Street at approximately 3:12 p.m. on April 18 following reports of a pedestrian hit by a car. Upon arrival, officers found a woman, believed to be around 75 years old, lying on the ground with facial lacerations and a significant shoulder injury, the department said.

A preliminary investigation determined that the woman was in a crosswalk when she was struck by a black Toyota Highlander. According to police, the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The woman was transported to a hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Her condition is currently unknown.

The Newburyport Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking anyone who witnessed the collision to call 978-462-4411, ext. 1.
