Worcester man charged with fentanyl trafficking after warrant search of Richland Street apartment

WORCESTER — A 36-year-old man is facing drug trafficking charges after police seized more than 400 grams of fentanyl from a city apartment on Monday.

In a statement, Worcester police said members of the department’s Vice Squad and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) task force executed two search warrants on May 5—one for an apartment at 76 Richland Street and another for a gold Toyota Avalon linked to Elvin Castillo.

Shortly after 9 a.m., detectives saw Castillo leave the apartment, enter the Avalon, and drive to Whipple Street, where they observed him engage in a suspected drug transaction. Officers approached and detained him at the scene.
