Mother and son arrested in drug raid at Leominster apartment; AR-15, handguns, and cocaine seized

LEOMINSTER — Two people were arrested and a cache of drugs and firearms were seized during a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-led operation at 67 Central Street, Apartment 2, early Friday morning, according to the Leominster Police Department.

Detectives from the Leominster Police Department, the DEA’s New England Field Division Worcester HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) Program, and the North Worcester County Drug Task Force (NWCDTF) executed the search warrant, which was obtained following a multi-agency investigation into narcotics trafficking and the illegal possession of firearms.

Due to the “extreme risk” associated with the warrant, the DEA’s Special Response Team (SRT) led the initial entry, police said.

The target of the investigation, Jobanny Matias-Burgos, 28, and his mother, Awilda Burgos, 44, were both taken into custody without incident, police said.

From the apartment, police seized approximately 26 grams of cocaine, 201 grams of marijuana, an illegally possessed AR-15 assault rifle, and three handguns, one of which was reported stolen.

Jobanny Matias-Burgos was charged with:

  • Cocaine, Trafficking in 18 Grams of More
  • Possess to Distribute Class B Drug
  • Receive Stolen Property -$1200
  • Unlawful Possession of Assault Weapon
  • Unlawful Possession of Large Capacity Feeding Device
  • Possess Firearm in Felony
  • Possess to Distribute Class D Drug

Awilda Burgos was charged with:

  • Receive Stolen Property -$1200
  • Unlawful Possession of Assault Weapon
  • Unlawful Possession of Large Capacity Feeding Device
  • Possess Firearm in Felony

Matias-Burgos’ bail was set at $100,000 cash.

Burgos’ bail was set at $5,000 cash.

Both individuals were booked at the Leominster Police Station and arraigned in Leominster District Court.

Leominster police said that additional charges are expected to be filed against both individuals at a later date.
