HAVERHILL — Massachusetts State Police say two people were killed and a third was injured after a crash on I-495 in Haverhill early Monday, and that another victim was found walking on the highway median.
At 3:45 a.m., on June 2, Massachusetts State Police troopers responded to a report of a person walking in the median of I-495 near Exit 107 in Haverhill. When troopers arrived on scene, they found Haverhill police treating an injured person in a parking lot nearby. The injured party told police they had been involved in an accident with two other people.
State Police began searching the area and eventually located a wrecked vehicle deep in the embankment beside the highway. Two people were found dead at the scene.
The incident caused significant disruptions to local traffic. In a statement issued Monday morning, Haverhill police warned residents that “due to an ongoing traffic incident and investigation by the Massachusetts State Police on Interstate 495 in the area of Ward Hill, there is a large amount of motor vehicle traffic throughout the City of Haverhill. This is causing significant traffic jams and delays on multiple roadways in city. Please allow for extra time throughout the morning to reach your destination.”
