ORANGE — The 200 block of West River Street was closed this afternoon after trees and wires came down across the roadway, compromising multiple utility poles, according to Orange Fire Rescue EMS.
Emergency crews responded at approximately 4:40 p.m. on June 11, secured the scene, and shut down the road to ensure public safety.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area until further notice.
Three individuals were injured, one critically, after a tree fell on them on Maple Street in Orange. A helicopter called to the scene was grounded in the wind.
After a sinkhole opened on East Main Street, Orange officials revealed the aging clay sewer pipe beneath may cost over half a million dollars to replace — and warned, “The pipe is not going to heal.”
At Wednesday’s Selectboard meeting, Orange Police Chief James Sullivan revealed that a felony indictment has been secured in connection with a fraud scheme that stole about $338,000 town funds.
