According to Townsend Police Sergeant David Phillips, the man – identified as James Reid – sent a text message to the protected party on May 18, 2025, in violation of the court-issued order.
According to police, James L. Reid, 40, is a resident of Tech Valley Drive in Westford, MA. Court documents indicate he’s single.
Two days later, on May 20, 2025, Reid allegedly parked behind the protected party’s vehicle near the rail trail in Townsend. “When he saw [the protected party] walking to the vehicle, he pointed at her with his fingers and made a shooting motion causing her to fear for her safety,” Sgt. Phillips wrote. Later that same day, Reid allegedly sent a Facebook friend request and placed a phone call to the protected party—both additional violations of the court-issued protection order, Sgt. Phillips reported.

He was arraigned that same day in Ayer District Court. Following his arraignment, Reid was released on personal recognizance under the condition that he comply with the restraining order and refrain from contacting or abusing the protected party.
Reid’s next court date is a pretrial hearing scheduled for July 11, 2025.
