When Officer Vlass activated his cruiserโ€™s overhead lights in an attempt to stop the moped, it turned right onto Brightside Avenue, then made another right onto Maple Circle, according to his report.

ย โ€œThe moped then drove over the driveway and into the backyard of 20 Maple Circle,โ€ Officer Vlass said. โ€œAs I followed the moped, they were met with a wood line and a fence in the backyard. At this point, they were going extremely slowโ€”only a couple miles an hour.โ€

Officer Vlass said the individuals then tried to turn right in an attempt to reenter the roadway.

โ€œI stopped my cruiser in the backyard and exited, running to the rear of the vehicle and then up to the passenger side, where I met both individuals,โ€ Officer Vlass said. โ€œThey dumped the moped and tried to run back to the roadway away from police until they saw me.โ€

Officer Vlass said he was able to stop the passenger from running, grabbed him and placed him into custody.

The passenger was later identified by police as Jeremi M. Arroyo Huertas, 18, of Robinson Street in Webster, MA.

โ€œThe operator then took off running, jumping over a fence in the backyard,โ€ Officer Vlass said. โ€œI called this information in, and Lieutenant [Kevin] Caviston, Lieutenant [Adam] Cameron, Lieutenant [Nick] Perna, Sergeant [David] Faucher, and Officer [Noah] Juaire searched the area for the operator.โ€

Officer Vlass said that within minutes Lieutenant Cameron located the operator of the moped and placed him in custody as well.

โ€œPlease note: Maple Circle is a residential neighborhood. Due to this incident, numerous neighbors stopped what they were doing and watched the incident unfold, and the homeowner came outside of her home at 20 Maple Circle to ask the police what was occurring in her yard due to all the commotion,โ€ Officer Vlass added.

Huertas was charged with:

  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Disturbing the Peace

The charges against the operator of the moped were not contained in the public records request obtained by News Link Live for the incident.

Huertas was arraigned in Westborough District Court on May 30, 2025. During his arraignment, Judge Nicole A. Colby Longton dismissed both charges at the joint request of the Commonwealth and the defendant.
