SHREWSBURY — On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 3:56 p.m., Officer Garrett Ostiguy of the Shrewsbury Police Department was on patrol when he observed a motorcycle traveling eastbound on Route 9 in the area of Industrial Drive.
According to a statement from the Shrewsbury Police Department, after Officer Ostiguy observed that there was no registration plate on the motorcycle, he attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop.
“The operator of the motorcycle fled, initiating a brief pursuit,” the Shrewsbury Police Department said in its statement. “The motorcycle operator began driving erratically to evade Officer Ostiguy, including speeding, crossing marked lanes, and running the red light at Lake Street.”
As the motorcycle approached the Auto Zone located at 542 Boston Turnpike, the operator jumped the curb into the Auto Zone parking lot, then fled on foot into a wooded area to the east of Auto Zone.
“Officers were aware that there was a children’s daycare on the other side of the wooded area that the suspect was observed running towards,” the Shrewsbury Police Department added. “After Officer Ostiguy lost sight of the suspect, 14 Shrewsbury police supervisors, officers and detectives responded and set up a perimeter around the area, in an attempt to catch the suspect and ensure the safety of everyone in the area.”
Police K-9s units from Charlton and Auburn responded to the scene to track the suspect.
“After a brief track in the wooded area, the suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident,” the Shrewsbury Police Department said.
Police later determined the motorcycle had been reported stolen from Southbridge, Massachusetts, two days earlier.
The suspect, later identified as Giancarlos Guzman, 21, of Worcester, MA, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Failure to stop for police
- Larceny of Motor Vehicle
- Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle
- Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Operating a Motor Vehicle to Endanger
