On June 18, 2025, Worcester police responded to a report in the area of Beacon Street and found Tatum on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided medical aid at the scene before Tatum was transported to a nearby hospital, where he passed away the following day.

Wilcox was initially arraigned in Worcester District Court on June 20, 2025, on six charges: murder, armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He has remained in custody since his arraignment.

Last week’s indictment transfers the case to Worcester County Superior Court, where Wilcox is scheduled to be arraigned on October 3, 2025.
