FITCHBURG — On Saturday, July 19, 2025, at approximately 11:29 a.m., Fitchburg Fire Department’s Group 4 companies responded to a reported dumpster fire at 54 Wallace Avenue in the downtown area.
The fire, which was located directly next to a 14-story high-rise building, posed a significant threat to nearby structures. Thanks to what Fire Chief Dante Suarez described as a “quick and efficient response,” crews were able to knock down the fire before it spread or caused any exposure damage.

Following extinguishment, firefighters conducted overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully out.

No injuries were reported, and all damage was contained within the dumpster.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined due to a lack of evidence left behind by the intensity of the blaze, Suarez said.
