Unlocked vehicles targeted in overnight break-ins in three Ayer neighborhoods

AYER — Ayer police are investigating a string of vehicle break-ins that took place between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in the Williams Street, High Street, and Highland Avenue neighborhoods.

According to a statement from the department, at least two individuals were involved and specifically targeted unlocked vehicles.

“We have video evidence that when they came across a locked door, they moved on to the next one,” the Ayer Police Department said in its statement.

Police are asking residents to check their home security cameras and report any suspicious activity or footage that may help identify the suspects. Officers also urge anyone else whose vehicle was broken into—even if nothing was stolen—to report it to the department.

“Keep your hard-earned possessions safe,” the department advised. “Set up a routine at night to remember to lock your vehicles.”
