Six Maryland women arrested in Norwood break-in, suspected of multi-state burglary ring

NORWOOD — Six women from Maryland were arrested on July 25 following a reported daytime break-in at a residence on Neponset Street, according to the Norwood Police Department.

The suspects—identified as Mirabela Caldarau, 42; Jajela Chiciu, 41; Flavia Caldararu, 22; Emilia Sardaru, 36; Mihaela Ion, 33; and Elizabeth Sardaru, 21—were each charged with breaking and entering during the daytime for a felony, conspiracy, possession of burglarious instruments, and resisting arrest.

According to a statement from Norwood’s Police Chief Christopher Padden, Norwood police officers responded to the home around 12:30 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with the residents, who reported returning home to find several women inside their house. When confronted by the homeowners, the suspects allegedly fled to a vehicle that was waiting for them outside and left the area.

A short time later, Officer Adam Osowski spotted a vehicle matching the suspects’ description and attempted a traffic stop. The driver did not comply, leading to a brief pursuit that ended on Dean Street. Six women exited the vehicle and ran into a nearby wooded area. Officer Osowski pursued and apprehended one of the suspects.

Additional officers established a perimeter and began searching the area. Officer Pete Fiske, working in plain clothes, observed several of the suspects behind a business on Pleasant Street. According to Chief Padden, when Officer Fiske approached the suspects they fled again.

“A foot pursuit ensued, and Lt. Jay Payne and Officer Fiske were able to take two more suspects into custody,” Chief Padden said. “Officer Sean Kelly, with the assistance of a Walpole Police Department detective, apprehended two additional suspects as they attempted to flee across a nearby river. The sixth suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter.”

During booking, police discovered two of the women had altered or obscured fingerprints, which prevented initial identification.

“Norwood Police worked with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), to confirm all suspects’ identities. All six individuals had Maryland addresses, and several had active warrants from other states for similar offenses,” Chief Padden said. “Norwood police detectives are actively coordinating with other jurisdictions to investigate related crimes.”

Chief Padden said a preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects are part of an organized group involved in similar criminal activities across multiple states. All six individuals, including the two men who attempted to post their bail, are reportedly related.

All six women were initially held without bail and transported to Dedham District Court for arraignment on Monday, July 28, 2025. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was notified and present at the courthouse. Three of the women were released on bail and immediately taken into ICE custody. The two men who appeared at court to post bail were also taken into ICE custody. Three of the six suspects remain held at this time, according to Chief Padden.

The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the group is asked to contact Detective Ryan Marchant at (339) 364-9632.
