NORWOOD — On Thursday, July 16, 2026, at approximately 9:41 p.m., Norwood Police Officer Sean Kelly was patrolling Broadway when he observed a Honda Accord operating without its headlights or taillights activated.
According to Norwood Police Chief Christopher Padden, Officer Kelly also observed the driver run a stop sign and attempted to pull the vehicle over.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and continued through several streets before Officer Kelly discontinued his pursuit.
Chief Padden said a short time later, as officers searched the area, a witness reported seeing two men abandon a vehicle and flee on foot.
Officer Kelly then observed two people running on Winter Street. Additional officers responded to the scene to assist, and the two men were taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit.
During the investigation, a man contacted police and reported that he had recently been assaulted and that his vehicle had been stolen near the Norwood Central commuter rail station.
Chief Padden said the preliminary investigation determined that the victim had arranged to meet one of the suspects at the station. During the encounter, the two suspects allegedly assaulted the victim, stole his cellphone and the keys to his vehicle, and fled in his Honda Accord.
The victim suffered minor injuries.
Police determined that the Honda Accord abandoned following the pursuit was the same vehicle reported stolen by the victim.
Johanns Miranda Pizarro, 23, of Boston, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Unarmed Robbery
- Carjacking
- Conspiracy
- Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (Subsequent Offense)
- Assault & Battery
- Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Stop for Police
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
- Failure to Stop or Yield
- Motor Vehicle Lights Violation
Demarcus Atkins, 20, of Norwood, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Unarmed Robbery
- Carjacking
- Conspiracy
- Larceny of a Motor Vehicle
- Assault & Battery
“Through interviews conducted by Officer Tyler Baker and Officer Kelly, they were able to piece together the events leading up to the robbery,” Chief Padden said. “This case highlights the value of proactive policing, outstanding teamwork, and quick decision-making on behalf of the officers of the 4-12 shift. What began as a simple motor vehicle violation quickly developed into the apprehension of two robbery suspects, the recovery of a stolen vehicle, and the successful investigation of a violent crime.”
Miranda Pizarro and Atkins were expected to be arraigned in Dedham District Court on Friday, July 17, 2026.
