18-year-old driving stolen vehicle with illegal high-capacity firearm arrested in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at around 1:00 a.m., members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center informed Springfield police officers assigned to Squad “A” that they observed a stolen vehicle on the 200 block of Hancock Street. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Somers, Connecticut.

According to a statement from the Springfield Police Department, at approximately 1:10 a.m., the Squad A officers located the stolen vehicle in a driveway on the 100 block of Walnut Street.

“Officers approached the vehicle, which had two occupants,” the Springfield Police Department said in its statement. “The driver was identified as Hussein Mohamed; the female passenger was later released. Officers placed Mohamed under arrest.”

During a search of the vehicle, police located an illegal firearm loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition. Police say it could hold 15.

Hussein Mohamed, 18, of Springfield, was charged with:

  1. Carrying a Firearm without a License
  2. Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  3. Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  4. Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle
