“The closing manager at the store reported a dark haired female had left the store with a number of items in a hand carry cart that she did not pay for,” Officer Glowacki said. “When the female was confronted by store employees she stated that she had a receipt for the items but would not produce it for them.”

Officer Glowacki stated that when he and Officer Brunelle arrived on scene, they observed a female sitting on a bench outside Firebrands Restaurant, located in the same plaza as Park ‘N Shop Supermarket, with a hand carrier on the ground near her feet.

“The female we observed was the same female party that we had received a call on earlier in the day and had an encounter with outside of the home improvement store in the plaza,” Officer Glowacki said. “A caller stated that the female appeared to need assistance. During that call, the female was identified as Cheryl Biagiarelli and was determined not to be in distress. Biagiarelli was offered EMS services and declined. Biagiarelli stated that she was going to make a call and get a ride from the premises.”

According to police, Cheryl A. Biagiarelli, 56, is a resident of Red Oak Lane in Southbridge, MA.

Officer Glowacki said that, for this call, Biagiarelli was asked if she had paid for the items in the cart.

“Biagiarelli stated that she had,” Officer Glowacki said. “Biagiarelli then provided Officer Brunelle with several receipts from Park ‘N Shop Supermarket. The receipts provided to Officer Brunelle were from different times and different days and did not contain the items that were currently in the hand carrier from the store.”

At this time, Officer Brunelle entered the store to speak with staff and review surveillance footage from the time of the incident.

“As Officer Brunelle was in the store I read Biagiarelli her Miranda rights and asked if she understood those rights,” Officer Glowacki said. “Biagiarelli replied that she did. I then asked Biagiarelli if she wanted to provide a statement as to why officers were called to the store this evening. Biagiarelli stated that she was not answering any questions.”

Officer Glowacki then informed Biagiarelli that the video footage and statements from store employees would determine the course of action that would be taken.

“Shortly after Officer Brunelle emerged from the store and indicated that Biagiarelli had indeed shop lifted the items she had in the hand carrier from the store which was confirmed by video and witness statements,” Officer Glowacki said.

Officer Glowacki then asked Biagiarelli to turn and place her hands behind her back. He handcuffed her, double-locked the restraints, and placed her in the rear seat of his cruiser for transport to the Dudley Police Department for booking.

“As Biagiarelli was being placed in the rear seat of my cruiser, she asked Officer Brunelle why she was being arrested and not being given a ticket,” Officer Glowacki said. “Biagiarelli was informed that she was being charged with shoplifting which is not a ticketable offense.”

Officer Glowacki transported Biagiarelli back to the Dudley Police Department for booking.

Officer Glowacki explained that during the booking process, Biagiarelli was photographed and fingerprinted. The items she had in the hand carrier, which was taken from Park ‘N Shop Supermarket, were also photographed.

“Biagiarelli was often times confrontational with officers during the booking process, refusing to remove jewelry and a hair clip,” Officer Glowacki said. “Biagiarelli was informed that if she did not complete the booking process that she may not be eligible for bail. Biagiarelli stated ‘that’s fine, I’ll do life for shoplifting.’ Once bail was contacted and set as personal recognizance by Mr. Greg Benoit, Biagiarelli became more cooperative completing the booking process.”

Cheryl Biagiarelli was charged with the following:

  • Shoplifting by Asportation

Biagiarelli was arraigned in Dudley District Court on Aug. 26, 2025.

On Aug. 28, 2025, during a pretrial hearing, Biagiarelli was found responsible for the charge of shoplifting by asportation (which has been decriminalized) and was fined $100. Court documents indicate she paid the fine that day.
