SOMERVILLE — The Somerville Police Department says an arrest has been made in connection with a series of incidents involving reports of sexual misconduct in the area of Marshall Street, including near the Marshall Street Playground.
In a public safety update, police said the individual taken into custody is believed to be linked to multiple encounters in which children and adults were approached in an inappropriate or concerning manner.
Police urged parents and guardians to continue speaking with children about safety when approached by strangers, emphasizing the following points:
- Never accept candy, gifts, or rides from someone you do not know
- Never go into a stranger’s home or car under any circumstances
- When possible, walk with friends and stick to familiar routes
- If approached or made to feel uncomfortable, children should leave the area immediately and tell a trusted adult
The investigation is ongoing, and Somerville Police are working with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office to determine the full scope of the suspect’s actions.
“Currently, police believe there is no further immediate threat to the community,” the Somerville Police Department said in its statement.
The name and other identifying information of the suspect has not yet been released.
