CHARLTON — A horse named “Franky” was extricated from an overturned trailer following a motor vehicle crash on Route 169 in Charlton today.
According to a statement from the Charlton Fire Department, at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, fire and police personnel responded to the scene and found a trailer overturned with a horse inside.
According to the department, Group 2 and Group 3 firefighters, under the direction of Captain Jonathan Bousquet and Lieutenant Rich Levangie — a member of the District 7 Technical Rescue Team — carried out the extrication. Firefighter Ed Smith also assisted.

The horse was moved into another trailer and evaluated by a veterinarian as a precaution. The owner reported that the animal appeared to be unharmed.
“Faced with a unique and challenging situation, the team developed, coordinated, and flawlessly executed a plan to safely rescue Franky without any issues,” the Charlton Fire Department said in its statement.
The Charlton Police Department assisted during the response.
Officials advised motorists to use caution in the area while crews worked at the scene.
