PEABODY — A Peabody educator who was placed on leave pending an investigation into online commentary is returning to classroom instruction on October 1, 2025, the Peabody Public Schools and Peabody Federation of Teachers announced in a joint statement.
The teacher was placed on leave earlier this month following social media posts concerning the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

While officials have not disclosed the specific content of the posts or the precise nature of the policy violations, the district and union say they conducted a “thorough review” and reached an agreement that would permit the educator’s “return to the classroom.”
One of the two teachers previously placed on leave has since resigned and will not be returning to Peabody High School, while the identity of the second educator has not been disclosed in public statements.
District leadership emphasized the importance of fostering “understanding and respect” and integrating lessons on civil discourse, empathy, and critical thinking back into the school environment.
“It is important that our community work together to foster greater understanding and respect opinions that differ from our own,” Peabody Public Schools Superintendent Josh Vadala said in a statement. “We hope that the same things students are learning in the classroom, including how to engage in debate thoughtfully, the importance of empathy, and how to be a critical thinker, can find their way back into our public discourse.”
Vadala added: “We look forward to continued collaboration and working together to prevent any further disruptions in our schools.”
