TEWKSBURY — At approximately 3:36 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, Tewksbury police officers responded to the intersection of North and East streets following a report of a car accident.

According to a statement from Tewksbury’s Police Chief Ryan Columbus, when officers arrived on scene, they determined that a grey 2009 Toyota Corolla and a green 2014 Subaru Forrester collided near the intersection.

Chief Columbus said a preliminary investigation found that the driver of the Corolla, Carole Hanley, 62, of Tewksbury, had turned onto North Street northbound and then crossed the double yellow line into the path of the Subaru.

Officers reported detecting an odor of alcohol coming from Hanley at the scene, Chief Columbus said.

Hanley was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital to be evaluated for her injuries.

The driver of the Forester, who is pregnant, and her 10-month-old passenger were not injured.

Carole Hanley was charged with:

  • Operating Under the Influence Liquor, 3rd Offense
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Marked Lanes Violation

Hanley is scheduled to appear in Lowell District Court on Monday for her arraignment.
