Millbury woman charged after allegedly accelerating SUV at ex-husband’s wife in Charlton

CHARLTON — On Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at approximately 6:52 p.m., Charlton Police Officers Jason White and Ray Sherbourne were dispatched to a local residence for a reported disturbance.

According to Officer White, the disturbance involved a woman by the name of Kelly Preston and the reporting party, Danielle [last name redacted].

“Upon arrival, I was met in the driveway by Danielle and her husband Jesse Preston who reside at [address redacted],” Officer White said. “Danielle explained to me that they were attending a cookout when they received a call from Jesse’s ex-wife Kelly stating that she was bringing their son JV1 [juvenile1] (who is known by this agency) to them because there was an altercation between the two, so Danielle and Jesse agreed they would meet Kelly at their home to take custody of JV1.”

According to police, Kelly B. Preston, 44, is a resident of Millbury, MA.

“Danielle further explained that she was out in the driveway when Kelly arrived with the child and stated, ‘Kelly was irate with JV1 in dealing with him and removed his belongings from the vehicle,’” Officer White said.

Officer White said Danielle was curious why her stepson was being dropped off and whether she needed to know anything about his behavior.

“Danielle explained Kelly told her that she would talk to Jesse only and not her,” Officer White said. “Danielle was under the assumption that the argument between the two was related to JV1 possibly transferring to a Charlton school ([school name redacted]) from Millbury as Danielle and Jesse have split custody of JV1. Again, Kelly advised she would not discuss anything with Danielle only JV1’s father Jesse.”

Danielle said Preston then got back into her vehicle a 2018 Chevy Traverse with Massachusetts plates with “JV2” (the younger juvenile brother of JV1) in the passenger seat.

“With Kelly in the driver’s seat and the vehicle running, Danielle was positioned at the front of the vehicle in the driveway,” Officer White said.

Officer White said Danielle reported that Preston then allegedly put the vehicle in drive and accelerated toward her, “placing Danielle in fear that she was going to be run over in her own driveway.”

“Having an utterance of surprise and fear that Kelly was driving towards her, Danielle yelled several profanities to include ‘Please s*ck a d*ck’ and Kelly responded with ‘I already did,’” Officer White said. “After that exchange of words, Kelly placed the vehicle in reverse and removed herself from the property.”

Officer White said Danielle reported that Kelly then called her ex-husband, Jesse, and texted that she wanted JV1’s cell phone because it was being taken away.

“Jesse wrote back in text that she was not welcome on the property,” Officer White said.

Officer White said that Danielle, who was still “very anxious and in fear,” then observed Preston had returned and was sitting in her vehicle at the end of the driveway, which prompted her to call Charlton police.

Officer White said that although the vehicle did not strike her, Preston scared Danielle by accelerating toward her in “her own driveway.”

“Danielle requested an emergency 209A [abuse prevention] order as she was in fear of Kelly and the numerous incidents that have been ongoing for years,” Officer White added.

Officer White said Danielle came to the Charlton Police Department that day and, with assistance from Officer Sherborne, she was granted a temporary order on Aug. 23, 2025, at 8:20 p.m.

“The order was faxed to the Millbury Police Department to be served in hand to Kelly,” Officer White said. “Note: This department filed a 51A on this matter as there were two juvenile’s (JV1 and JV2) present during the incident that was reported to this agency.” (A 51A form is a mandatory report that professionals in Massachusetts, who work with children, must file with the DCF when they suspect that a child is being abused, neglected, or both).

Officer White requested a summons be issued for a Clerk Magistrate hearing for Kelly B. Preston on the following charge:

  • Assault & Battery with Dangerous Weapon (to wit, motor vehicle)

Preston’s arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 3, 2025, in Dudley District Court. (Editor’s note: A reason for the delay between the summons request and the arraignment was not included in the documents News Link Live obtained through its FOIA request).
