WORCESTER — A 26-year-old man was arrested last night in connection with a fatal shooting on Southgate Street, according to the Worcester Police Department.
At approximately 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Worcester officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired on Southgate Street. Upon arrival, police said they found a male victim lying on the sidewalk and immediately began life-saving measures. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
A short time later, police arrested 26-year-old Antonio Canales-Martinez, who was charged with the following:
- Armed Assault to Murder
- Assault & Battery with a Firearm
- Aggravated Assault & Battery with Serious Bodily Injury
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Dwelling
The department’s Crime Scene Unit safely recovered and processed the firearm, according to the press release.
The incident remains under investigation by the Worcester Police Department’s Detective Bureau.

He physically pushed through Antonio’s apartment trying to harm Antonio, Antonios girlfriend and their child! The “victim” then WAITED outside of the building for Antonio and his beloved ones. TWO FEMALE NEIGHBORS have helped bring out diaper bags for Antonio’s baby to the car, well doing so THE “VICTIM” then assaults the two HELPING FEMALE NEIGHBORS! Antonios girlfriend holding the baby then walked down the stairs and WITNESSED this “VICTIM” pinning up the HELPING neighbor against the wall. The girlfriend then tried to run upstairs to SAFTEY from this “VICTIM” who is known for abusing his family, fell and cried for help. Antonio then came out to PROTECT them as he witnessed this “VICTIM” being overly aggressive and abusive to these women! Antonio told him to STOP ABUSING THE WOMEN, the “VICTIM” then charged at Antonio while Antonio’s girlfriend and daughter was in fear! Pinning him out to be a murderer when he was PROTECTING THOSE AROUND HIM from a “VICTIM” who was abusing his OWN family is the most diabolical thing Massachusetts has done!
