Leominster man taken to hospital for dog bite arrested after disturbance in waiting room

LEOMINSTER — On Sunday, November 30, 2025, Officers Nicholas Rice and Mackenson Adescar of the Leominster Police Department were dispatched to Leominster Hospital at 60 Hospital Road following a report that a man was “out of control” in the waiting room.

Officer Rice said dispatch informed him that the individual, Adrian Batista, appeared to be the same person from his prior call, when Batista had been transported to the hospital for a dog bite.

According to police, Adrian M. Batista, 20, is a resident of Leominster, MA.

“Upon arrival, the male party was being held down by hospital security and there was a large crowd of patients and nurses surrounding him,” Officer Rice said. “This was going on in the vestibule area. I entered the area, and Adrian was on the ground screaming nonsense.”

One of the nurses told Officer Rice that Batista had assaulted both security guards.

“It was clear that Adrian was upset with hospital staff, so in an attempt to deescalate the situation, we ordered them to leave the room,” Officer Rice said.

Officer Rice said he tried to calm Batista down by reasoning with him.

“I was telling him to just focus on me. Adrian was still screaming,” Officer Rice said. “I lowered the volume of my voice and softly explained that I could hear him and there was no reason to yell. Adrian refused to de-escalate. He stood up, fell into a window, and began to approach Officer [Timothy] Galvin. Officer Galvin straightened out his arm and told Adrian to back up.”

Officer Rice said he again instructed Batista to calm down, but Batista did not comply.

“Adrian then yelled even louder than before while pointing to the hospital staff in the other room calling them ‘DUMB MOTHERF*CKERS!'” Officer Rice said. “While Adrian was screaming, I detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from his mouth.”

At this time, Officer Rice said that after several attempts to de-escalate the situation, it was apparent that Batista was not going to calm down.

“Adrian’s loud, coarse language inside a public waiting room at the hospital with other patients and staff present and huddled around to watch, created a physically offensive condition that served no legitimate purpose,” Officer Rice said. “Adrian then clenched his jaw, raised his balled fists above his waist, and turned his body towards me.”

Officers Rice and Galvin then approached Batista and told him to turn around.

“Adrian refused lawful orders and resisted the arrest process by pulling his arms away from officers and clenching them close to his body,” Officer Rice said. “We got ahold of Adrian’s arm and performed an armbar takedown. He landed on his stomach and his arms were underneath his body. We were ordering to him to give us his hands and he refused.”

Officer Rice said he told Batista he was going to pepper spray him and he complied.

“Once placed in handcuffs by Officer Galvin, Adrian was walked to Officer Galvin’s cruiser,” Officer Rice said.

Batista was then transported to the station for booking.

“I went into the hospital to speak with staff,” Officer Rice said. “I first spoke with Kristi [last name redacted]. She stated that Adrian came into the ER extremely angry and yelling, causing a scene. He was stating that staff took his property and he wanted it back. As previously stated, Adrian was transported to the hospital as a result of a dog bite on my previous call. Adrian left his apartment in such a hurry that he did not grab any of his property. She stated Adrian was refusing to calm down and was telling her to ‘suck my d*ck’ and screaming ‘[n-word]’ in the lobby. She stated they had to move other patients to a different room.”

Officer Rice said he then spoke with both security guards who were on duty at the time of the incident, Tyrese [last name redacted] and Van [last name redacted].

“They stated that Adrian started to throw punches at them and they had to take him down,” Officer Rice said. “Tyrese was not punched but Van was.”

Tyrese told Officer Rice that he was punched once or twice in the chest, but he wasn’t injured.

“It should be noted that Van and Tyrese are black males,” Officer Rice said. “Adrian was saying ‘[the n-word]’ quite a bit. I asked both Tyrese and Van if that racial slur was ever directed towards them specifically or if it was just said out loud. They both agreed that they did not feel as though it was directed towards them, rather it was being yelled out loud. Both Tyrese and Van wished to press charges.”

Officer Rice said he then called Sergeant John Bouchard to the hospital to document the scene.

Adrian Batista was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Assault & Battery
  • Assault

Batista was arraigned in Leominster District Court on Dec. 3, 2025. Following his arraignment, he was released on personal recognizance. Batista’s next court date is a pretrial conference hearing scheduled for January 22, 2026.
