Shrewsbury man arrested for assaulting juvenile with axe before roadway altercation

SHREWSBURY — On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at approximately 8:54 a.m., Shrewsbury Police Officer Chad Chysna was on patrol near the 200 block of South Quinsigamond Avenue when he observed several people fighting in the roadway.

According to a statement from the Shrewsbury Police Department, Officer Chysna then observed a black 2007 Toyota Corolla accelerate away from the scene at a high rate of speed.

Officer Chysna pursued the vehicle and initiated a motor vehicle stop on South Quinsigamond Avenue at its intersection with Oak Street.

“Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver stated that he had just been involved in a fight,” the Shrewsbury Police Department said in its statement. “Shortly thereafter, several individuals arrived at the stop location and informed Officer Chysna that the driver had gone to their residence, where an altercation occurred. During the incident, the suspect allegedly retrieved an axe from his vehicle and struck a juvenile male.”

The suspect, identified as Felipe Silva Marcio Linhares, 22, of Shrewsbury, was taken into custody at the scene. Linhares was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault & Battery with Dangerous Weapon (Axe)
  • Assault & Battery with Dangerous Weapon (Shod Foot)

The Shrewsbury Police Department said the incident remains under investigation; however, it is believed the individuals involved were known to one another.

“The incident is not believed to be random in nature, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” the Shrewsbury Police Department said in its statement.
