Pittsfield man arrested after alleged firearm threat; heroin found, no gun recovered

PITTSFIELD — On Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at approximately 6:34 p.m., patrol officers with the Pittsfield Police Department responded to the 500 block of North Street following a report of an unwanted subject.

According to a statement from Lieutenant John Soules, when officers arrived on scene, they learned that an individual had been threatened by a man with a firearm. Lieutenant Soules said multiple people were inside a particular apartment, including the potential suspect.

Due to the report of a firearm and the presence of multiple individuals inside the residence, additional officers responded to the scene, including members of the Pittsfield Police Department’s anti-crime unit, Lieutenant Soules said.

Lieutenant Soules said officers were allowed into the apartment and identified the suspect as Ixander Pereira, a 22-year-old Pittsfield resident.

“Pereira was taken into custody without incident, and officers discovered bags of material consistent with heroin on his person,” Lt. Soules said in the statement. Later adding, “No firearm was recovered.”

Ixander Pereira, 22, of Pittsfield, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (firearm)
  • Possession of a Class A Substance (heroin)

Pereira’s arraignment was scheduled for today in Pittsfield District Court.
