DRACUT — On Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, at about 9:28 a.m., the Dracut Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at a senior housing apartment complex located at 1476 Mammoth Road.
According to Dracut Fire Chief Michael Cunha, first arriving crews found smoke and fire showing from a bedroom window on the second floor.
“Approximately 25 residents were able to evacuate,” Chief Cunha said in a statement. “About five residents with mobility issues were assisted out of the building by firefighters and Dracut police.”
Sprinklers in the apartment building contained a bedroom fire until firefighters were able to stretch two hose lines inside.
Chief Cunha requested multiple ambulances from Pridestar Trinity EMS respond to the scene of the fire — which escalated to a second alarm — because the residents were evacuated into freezing temperatures. No injuries were reported.
The Dracut Council on Aging also sent a vehicle to assist residents and help keep them warm.
One second-floor unit was damaged by fire, while three first-floor units sustained significant water damage. Residents of those units were displaced, but most of the building’s occupants were able to return to their apartments after the fire was extinguished, Chief Cunha reported.
“The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist displaced occupants with shelter, but it is believed that the occupants were able to find temporary arrangements with family members,” Chief Cunha said.
Firefighters from the Lowell Fire Department, Tyngsborough Fire Department and the Pelham Fire Department in New Hampshire provided mutual aid at the scene, while crews from the Methuen Fire Department and Hudson Fire Department covered Dracut’s fire stations during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Dracut Fire Department.
