TOWNSEND โ On Monday, December 15, 2025, at approximately 11:21 a.m., Officer Alex Stellato of the Townsend Police Department said a green 1997 Honda Civic LX with New Hampshire plates driven by a man from New York caught his attention when it nearly rear-ended a school van travelling northbound while turning from Elm Street onto Depot Street.
According to a Statement of Facts in Support of Application for Criminal Complaint written by Officer Stellato, the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Eddy Liranzo Faรฑa of Medford, New York, had to slam on his brakes and swerve over the double yellow line on Elm Street to avoid a collision.
“Mr. Liranzo Faรฑa was following too close in this instance, and still slowing down during the transition from a 40 mph zone to a 20 mph zone,” Officer Stellato said.
At the time of the crash, Officer Stellato said there was “an abundance of snow atop the roof” of Liranzo Faรฑa’s vehicle and “a defective exhaust system on the car that produced a harsh and unreasonable amount of noise, louder than most semi-trucks in the same area at the time.”
Officer Stellato said Liranzo Faรฑa didn’t have a valid driver’s license, only a New York state learner’s permit, and he didn’t have a licensed driver in the vehicle with him.
Eddy A. Liranzoย Faรฑa, 30, of Medford, New York, was charged with the following:
- Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Load Unsecured/Uncovered
- Equipment Violation, Miscellaneous Motor Vehicle
Liranzoย Faรฑa was arraigned in Ayer District Court on Dec. 15, 2025. During his arraignment, Judge Tejal Mehta dismissed the charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle at the request of the Commonwealth, determined there was no probable cause for the unsecured/uncovered load charge, and found him not responsible for the equipment violation charge.
Disclaimer: If you are wondering why the arrest in this story took place in December, thatโs because I had to file FOIA request(s) to obtain the court documents. FOIAs are time-consuming.
