Officer Brescia said that when he arrived on scene, he observed two women and one man outside the building yelling and screaming at each other.
Clinton Police Officers Shane Gilman, Kristopher Vazquez and Sergeant Edward Jeffrey also responded to the scene.
โWe separated all three adults and started to get each side of the story, and we later identified all three adults as [29-year-old] Elijah Wheeler-Watson, [29-year-old] Kyrea Bowens, and [26-year-old] Araya Henderson,โ Officer Brescia said. โSpeaking with Kyrea, she stated that she was here with her boyfriend, Elijah, and he wanted a PS5 [PlayStation 5] that was located in Arayaโs room.โ
Officer Brescia said Bowens told him that Wheeler-Watson entered Hendersonโs room, and Henderson, who became aggravated at Wheeler-Watson for just walking in, told him to take the PlayStation 5 and nothing else. Bowens said Araya became upset with how Wheeler-Watson was speaking to her and with the items he had taken from her room, and the situation escalated into an argument.
โThe argument continued into the living room where Elijah and Kyrea were after leaving Araya’s room,โ Officer Brescia said. โElijah stated he was in the living room with his PS5, and Araya came into the living room, continued yelling at Elijah about taking the PS5 that did not belong to him and taking some of her cords that were connected to the PS5 along with a cellphone that was hers.โ
Wheeler-Watson stated that Henderson was yelling at him in the living room to return her belongings and then, out of anger, she began pulling the television off the wall and knocking over several flower stands in the room.
โElijah said when Araya took the TV off the wall it fell onto the PS5 and broke it as well,โ Officer Brescia said. โElijah proceeded to call his motherโฆwho has the apartment lease in her name and told her what had occurred.โ
While his mother was still on the phone, Wheeler-Watson handed his phone to Sergeant Jeffrey, and Wheeler-Watsonโs mother told Sergeant Jeffrey that she wanted to press charges against Henderson for the damage done to the apartment.
Officer Brescia said that once Sergeant Jeffrey advised him of what Wheeler-Watsonโs mother said, he placed Henderson under arrest, handcuffed her and then transported her to the Clinton Police Department for booking.
โSergeant Jeffrey and Officer Gilman remained on scene to explain 209A [abuse prevention order] rights to Elijah and Kyrea and photograph the damaged property,โ Officer Brescia said.
Officer Brescia said that while she was being booked, Henderson said that she wanted to get an emergency restraining order against Wheeler-Watson and Bowens.
โPatrolman Vazquez completed the Emergency 209A form with Araya. While Patrolman Vazquez was completing the Emergency 209A Form Elijah and Kyrea came into the police station and wanted to get an Emergency Restraining Order against Araya,โ Officer Brescia said. โOfficer Gilman assisted both Elijah and Kyrea with completing the form and later called the on-call Judge Steven Power. Officer Gilman and I explained to Honorable Power why everyone wanted a restraining order.โ
Judge Power denied the restraining order for Henderson and Bowens and granted the restraining order for Wheeler-Watson.
While still at the police department, Henderson was served with the restraining order, and Officer Gilman and Officer Vazquez explained its terms to her.
Araya E. Henderson, 26, was charged with the following:
- Vandalize Property
Officer Brescia said that after she was booked, Henderson was bailed out at 1:00 a.m.
