Body recovered from Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield believed to be missing man

WAKEFIELD — This afternoon, police recovered a body from Lake Quannapowitt believed to be that of a man missing since December.

According to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Wakefield Police Chief Steven Skory, preliminary information, including the clothing on the victim, suggest the body is that of Jason Thomas, 45, who was reported missing to Wakefield police on December 13, 2025.

Thomas was last seen leaving his home the night of December 12, 2025. When he did not return, his wife reported him missing in the early hours of December 13.

Wakefield police conducted an extensive search of the area following the report, utilizing resources from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, including K-9 units and drones.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, a Wakefield police detective searching the lake, in an area that had previously been frozen, located what appeared to be a body in the water. Wakefield police deployed a drone to the area to confirm the discovery, and Wakefield police and fire personnel responded to the scene to recover the body.

The body will be examined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who will determine the identity as well as the cause and manner of death.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Wakefield police said no foul play is suspected based on preliminary information.
