CLINTON — On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Clinton police and firefighters responded to the railroad crossing on Sterling Street after a train struck a vehicle.
According to the Clinton Police Department, first responders arrived to find the driver standing outside the vehicle.
Even though the driver reported no injuries after the crash, Clinton Fire Department ambulance personnel examined the driver at the scene as a precautionary measure.
Police said the vehicle was traveling westbound when it was struck by the northbound train. The impact caused significant damage to the rear passenger side and sent the vehicle spinning.
The Clinton Police Department reported that the railroad crossing warning signals, including the flashing red lights and audible bells, were working properly and activated when the accident occurred.
Clinton Police Officer Jeffrey Notaro is investigating the accident with cooperation from CSX Railroad.
“The driver will be issued any appropriate citations for violations identified during the officers’ investigation,” the Clinton Police Department said in a statement.
