NEWTON — Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Newton Police Chief Timothy Cohoon announced today that there is an ongoing investigation into a fatal car accident that took place yesterday in Newton.
In a joint statement, Ryan and Cohoon said preliminary information suggests that at approximately 3:42 p.m., a car heading eastbound on Beacon Street crossed over the double yellow lines and struck another vehicle head-on. The 83-year-old driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The two occupants of the other vehicle that was struck did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Newton Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
