Lowell woman caught trespassing at Westford quarry arrested on warrant, fake ID charges

WESTFORD — On Thursday, April 16, 2026, at approximately 5:24 p.m., Westford Police Officer Collin Breault and David Short were patrolling Merrill’s Quarry, a privately owned former granite quarry on Tyngsboro Road, when they observed a man and woman lying on rocks across the water.

“It should be noted that there are numerous ‘No Trespassing’ signs posted around the property, as well as locked gates blocking every point of access,” Officer Breault said.

As Officer Breault approached the water’s edge, he shouted, “Police Department, you are trespassing, walk towards me,” to the couple he observed on the rocks.

Officer Breault said he and Officer Short then walked along the shoreline and eventually made contact with both individuals.

“I explained to both parties that Merrill’s Quarry has several ‘No Trespassing’ signs at every point of entry,” Officer Breault said. “Upon asking the parties how they gained entry into the quarry, the female stated they crawled under the yellow gate on Tyngsboro Road. I then asked if they saw the ‘No Trespassing’ sign, to which they stated ‘we thought that meant no cars.’ I then requested both parties drivers licenses, which they both stated they did not have on them.”

Officer Breault said he eventually identified the woman as Ana Carollyna Silva Pereira Soares, 21, of Lowell, and identified the man as Gustavo De Carvalho through a Brazilian passport.

“A CJIS [the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services database] inquiry of Gustavo showed that he was unlicensed, and had no hits on WMS [Warrant Management System database],” Officer Breault said. “A CJIS inquiry of Ana showed that her license was active and there was one active straight warrant on WMS for her.”

Officer Breault then contacted dispatch to check whether Soares’ warrant was still active, and dispatch confirmed that it was. The warrant for Soares’ arrest was issued by Lowell District Court on Feb. 19, 2026, for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

“While Officer Short spoke to Gustavo, I placed Ana under arrest and placed her in the rear passenger compartment of Cruiser #25,” Officer Breault explained.

Officer Breault said that once he and Officer Short completed paperwork and released De Carvalho, he transported Soares to the Westford Police Department for booking.

“During an inventory of the backpack Ana requested we bring to WPD, I discovered two North Carolina (NC) driver’s licenses, both with Ana’s photo and full name [on them],” Officer Breault said.

The North Carolina driver’s licenses listed an address of 2423 Annecy Drive in Matthews, North Carolina, and a date of birth of Sept. 29, 2002, which was two years older than Soares’ actual age. Both licenses had the same North Carolina operator’s license number.

“When asked about the North Carolina licenses, Ana admitted that they were fake and were from before she turned 21 years of age,” Officer Breault said.

Officer Breault said that while Ana was being booked, he conducted a Criminal Justice Information System inquiry on the North Carolina driver’s license number, which showed the operator’s license number belonged to Kurt Schreefer of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

“With the assistance of Officer Short, I made contact with Kurt over the phone and advised him of the situation,” Officer Breault said. “I advised Kurt to file an identity theft report with his local police department. Kurt stated he understood and had no questions.”

The two fake licenses were seized as evidence and placed in a temporary evidence locker.

Ana Carollyna Silva Pereira Soares, 21, of Lowell, was charged with the following:

  • Tresspass
  • Liquor ID Card/License, False/Misuse

Soares’ bail was set at personal recognizance.

Officer Breault said Soares was released from Westford police custody at approximately 7:40 p.m. after bail paperwork was completed.

Soares was arraigned in Ayer District Court on April 21, 2026. Following her arraignment, Soares was released on personal recognizance under the condition that if she complete and provide proof of 10 hours of community service, the charges may be dismissed on the next day (prior to arraignment). Soares’ arraignment was then continued to June 9, 2026.

The charges were dismissed on May 1, 2026.
