Greater Lowell Technical High School names April, May Students of the Month

TYNGSBOROUGH — Greater Lowell Technical High School has named its Students of the Month for April and May 2026.

According to Greater Lowell Technical High School Superintendent Jill Davis, the students were recognized for displaying the school’s R.E.A.C.H. core values: Respect, Effort, Accountability, Commitment and Honesty.

Superintendent Davis said the students also reflect Greater Lowell’s mission of preparing students for career, college and citizenship in the 21st century.

For April, Giovanna Rodrigues, of Lowell, was selected as Senior Student of the Month. Rodrigues, who entered Greater Lowell from Robinson Middle School, is majoring in Health Assisting/Pre-Nursing and maintains a 3.8 GPA. Her schedule includes Dual Enrollment English Composition, Advanced Placement Statistics, Honors Chemistry and Honors Introduction to Psychology. She has earned several academic and technical awards, is studying American Sign Language through the school’s after-school programs and has earned the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy for fluency in Portuguese and English. After graduation, she plans to begin at Middlesex Community College before transferring to UMass Lowell and pursuing a career as a nurse practitioner.

Arena Phal, of Lowell, was selected as Junior Student of the Month for April. Phal, who entered Greater Lowell from Butler Middle School, is majoring in Automotive Technology and maintains a 4.0 GPA. She is enrolled in Advanced Placement English Language and Composition, Honors Algebra 2 and Honors Physics. Phal is a member of SkillsUSA and the Student Ambassador program, works at Little Delights Bakery in Lowell and plans to pursue a degree in radiology.

Sophia Morais, of Dracut, was selected as Sophomore Student of the Month for April. Morais, who entered Greater Lowell from Richardson Middle School, is majoring in Medical Laboratory and Assisting and maintains a 4.12 GPA. She is enrolled in honors-level coursework, has completed six credits in Spanish through the school’s after-school language program and is involved in SkillsUSA, Student Council and the Student Ambassador program. Outside of school, she works as a cashier at Market Basket on Pawtucket Boulevard in Lowell and volunteers at High Pointe House hospice center in Haverhill. After graduation, she plans to pursue a healthcare career as a physician or nurse practitioner.

Bayron Cruz Pena, of Lowell, was selected as Freshman Student of the Month for April. Cruz Pena, who entered Greater Lowell from Robinson Middle School, is enrolled in college preparatory and honors coursework and has earned honor roll recognition. He participates on the freshman basketball team and junior varsity baseball team. After completing pre-coursework in all 23 technical areas, he selected Electrical as his major. After graduation, he plans to continue his education and develop his skills as a residential, commercial and industrial electrician.

For May, Samantha Brady, of Lowell, was selected as Senior Student of the Month. Brady, who entered Greater Lowell from Wang Middle School, is majoring in Medical Laboratory and Assisting and maintains a 4.07 GPA. Her schedule includes Dual Enrollment English Composition, Early College Precalculus and Advanced Placement Physics. Brady is a member of the National Honor Society/National Technical Honor Society, serves as a Student Ambassador and is captain of the Greater Lowell Tech varsity softball team. She is also employed through the school’s cooperative education program as a medical assistant at Westford Primary Care. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career as a doctor of veterinary medicine.

Sothyda Ky-In, of Lowell, was selected as Junior Student of the Month for May. Ky-In, who entered Greater Lowell from Daley Middle School, is majoring in Health Assisting/Pre-Nursing and maintains a 4.27 GPA. She is enrolled in Early College Precalculus, Honors English and Honors Anatomy and Physiology. She is involved in the Art Club, Environmental Club, Drama Club and SkillsUSA, and volunteers at schoolwide events, the Wish Project and Daley Middle School. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in nursing.

Iverson was selected as Sophomore Student of the Month for May. Iverson is majoring in Information Technology Services and maintains a 4.35 GPA. He is enrolled in Honors English 2, Honors Geometry and Honors Chemistry, and has earned recognition for honor roll, high honor roll and Special Recognition in Information Technology. School officials said he was nominated for representing the school’s values of Honesty and Commitment. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in computer engineering.

Kourtney Patenaude, of Dracut, was selected as Freshman Student of the Month for May. Patenaude, who entered Greater Lowell from Richardson Middle School, maintains a 3.5 GPA and is enrolled in college preparatory and honors-level coursework. She is a member of Greater Lowell’s varsity cheer team and recently completed pre-coursework in all 23 technical areas before selecting Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration as her technical major. Outside of school, she works at Walker’s Gymnastics and Locals Diner. School officials said she is still considering her post-graduation options, including a career in her trade or further education in healthcare.
