BOSTON — On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, a Quincy man was sentenced in federal court in Boston to more than nine years in prison for the armed robbery of a Santander Bank in Weymouth.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, Glenn Legere, 47, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Julia Kobick to 110 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
Legere pleaded guilty in December 2025 to one count of armed bank robbery. He was arrested and charged in June 2025.
On December 17, 2024, at approximately 4:52 p.m., police were dispatched to a Santander Bank branch in Weymouth following a report of a bank robbery.
According to federal prosecutors, a bank teller told law enforcement that employees were preparing to close the bank when a man wearing a sweatshirt, baseball hat, face covering, and gloves came in through the main entrance.
The man, later identified as Legere, approached a teller’s window, removed a black firearm from the front pocket of his sweatshirt, opened a black cloth bag and demanded money, the U.S. Attorneys Office for the District of Massachusetts reported.
As the teller handed Legere money from the cash box, Legere yelled words to the effect of “I need money,” “I want the money,” and “I don’t play.”
Prosecutors said Legere pointed the firearm directly at the teller at various times, then ran toward other teller windows, gesturing toward cash box areas and demanding more money, but the teller told Legere there was no more money and showed him an empty cash drawer.
Legere left the bank with approximately $947 in stolen cash.
A review of surveillance footage from nearby locations determined that Legere drove to and from the robbery location in a silver or grey Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts. A vehicle matching that description was captured on cameras in Quincy right before and after the robbery and was registered to Legere.
Federal prosecutors said Legere has multiple prior convictions for armed and unarmed robberies, including a 2011 armed robbery conviction in Norfolk Superior Court which resulted in a three to five year sentence in state prison and a conviction from 2010 for armed and unarmed bank robberies in Braintree, Hanover, Duxbury, and Plymouth, which resulted in a three year state prison sentence.
At the time of Legere’s arrest, a firearm and some of the clothing believed to have been worn during the robbery were recovered, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts said.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Ted E. Docks, special agent in charge of the FBI Boston Division; Massachusetts State Police Colonel Geoffrey D. Noble; and Weymouth Police Chief Richard M. Fuller announced the sentence.
The Massachusetts State Police, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, and the Wellesley Police Department assisted in the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
