12-year-old girl dies after motorized scooter, bus crash in Haverhill

HAVERHILL — A 12-year-old Haverhill Public Schools student died after the motorized scooter she was riding was involved in a collision with a bus Thursday afternoon, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Haverhill Police Chief Wayne Tracy announced.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Portland Street and 5th Avenue in Haverhill following a report of a collision involving a bus and two children who were riding a motorized scooter, the Haverhill Police Department reported.

The children were transported to area hospitals for treatment. One of the children, a 12-year-old girl, later died.

Her identity has not been released pending family notifications, Tucker and Tracy said in a joint statement issued Friday.

The collision remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Haverhill police, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
