MATTAPOISETT — Joshua Vanderquist has been appointed assistant principal of Rochester Memorial School, Old Rochester Regional School District Superintendent Michael S. Nelson announced.
Vanderquist began his new position on July 1, succeeding Charles West, who was recently appointed principal of Center School in Mattapoisett.
Before joining Rochester Memorial School, Vanderquist served as assistant principal of two elementary schools in New York’s Union-Endicott Central School District beginning in 2022.
His previous responsibilities included leading Response to Intervention and Multi-Tiered System of Supports initiatives, supervising staff, facilitating professional development, coordinating enrichment programs, and working with families to support students.
Before he became an assistant principal, Superintendent Nelson said Vanderquist worked as a student success coordinator and spent several years working as an elementary and secondary music educator and instructional leader.
“We are excited to welcome Josh to Rochester Memorial School and our school community,” Superintendent Nelson said. “Throughout the interview process, he demonstrated a collaborative leadership style, a strong commitment to supporting students and teachers, and a genuine passion for elementary education. We are confident he will be a valuable addition to Rochester Memorial School.”
Vanderquist earned a Certificate of Advanced Studies in educational leadership from Binghamton University, a master’s degree in music education from Columbia University, and bachelor’s degrees in music education and vocal performance from Ithaca College.
Vanderquist holds New York certifications as a school building leader and school district leader. He has applied for Massachusetts licensure through reciprocity.
