WILLIAMSTOWN — A 7-year-old child from Williamstown was killed Friday after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle near the intersection of Main Street and Buxton Hill Road.
According to Berkshire District Attorney Timothy J. Shugrue’s office, the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit was notified of the potentially fatal collision at approximately 5:39 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling east on Main Street while the child was riding a bicycle down Buxton Hill Road toward Main Street.
Investigators believe the child unintentionally entered Main Street and was struck by the vehicle.
The child died from their injuries at the scene.
The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office reported that the involved driver was not impaired by alcohol or drugs. The child was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The child’s family has requested privacy at this time, and Berkshire District Attorney Shugrue asked members of the public and media to respect the family’s wishes during “this impossibly difficult situation.”
The collision remains under investigation.
Williamstown police and firefighters, Northern Berkshire EMS, Massachusetts State Police from the Cheshire Barracks, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit responded to the scene.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner accepted the case.
