HAVERHILL — A 59-year-old Haverhill man pleaded guilty to trespassing after police said he repeatedly refused officers’ orders to leave G.A.R. Park after it had closed for the night.

Officer Jameson Salomon said that on July 21, 2026, at approximately 10:26 p.m., he responded to G.A.R. Park on Main Street where he was met with Guadelupe Perez who stated that he got into an argument with James Cronin about not wanting to give him a cigarette.
“Guadelupe stated he gave a cigarette to Ronald Lawler and didn’t want to give a cigarette to anyone else,” Officer Salomon said. “I spoke with James Cronin, who stated that Guadelupe was making everyone uneasy by his behavior in the park and by dumping trash on the ground.”
According to police, James R. Cronin, 59, is a resident of Haverhill, MA.
At around this time, Officers Keith Cronin and Ryan Brown arrived on scene to assist.
“Everyone was asked to leave the area and advised that the park is closed after hours and that they were trespassing,” Officer Salomon said. “After several commands to leave the area, James refused and continued picking up trash and lingering around. James was given several more opportunities to leave and refused to listen to our commands.”
Officer Salomon said that Cronin was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Haverhill Police Department for booking.
James R. Cronin, 59, of Haverhill, was charged with the following:
- Trespass
Cronin was arraigned on July 22, 2026, in Haverhill District Court, where he pleaded guilty to the trespassing charge. During his arraignment, Judge Susan McNeil accepted Cronin’s guilty plea and placed him on probation with administrative supervision until Jan. 22, 2027.
Judge McNeil also ordered Cronin to pay a $50 victim/witness assessment and to abide by any no-trespassing signs at G.A.R. Park.
Cronin’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2027.
