ATTLEBORO — On Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Attleboro police responded to the area of Emory and Forest streets after a resident reported two men breaking into vehicles.
According to Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney, the resident called 911 after observing the men actively breaking into vehicles outside his residence and at a nearby automotive repair business.
Officers Chris Ulbrich and George Downing-Carter responded to the area and located two men matching the descriptions provided by the caller. As officers attempted to detain them, one suspect was taken into custody while the other fled on foot.
The individual arrested was identified as Isaia Lopes, 18, of Attleboro. He was taken into custody without incident.
Officer Michael Antunes joined Officers Ulbrich and Downing-Carter in searching nearby streets, properties, and other locations where the second suspect may have fled or attempted to hide.
Chief Heagney said the investigation then focused on identifying and locating the second suspect, determining the number of vehicles that had been entered or damaged, and identifying any property that may have been stolen.
“The Attleboro Police Department encourages residents in the area to check their vehicles for any signs of entry, damage, or missing property,” Chief Heagney said. “Anyone who discovers that their vehicle was broken into or believes property was stolen from their vehicle is asked to contact the Attleboro Police Department to report the incident.”
Chief Heagney also reminded residents to lock their vehicles at all times, remove valuables or keep them out of sight, and promptly report suspicious activity.
