TOWNSEND — On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Sergeant Jeffrey Giles of the Townsend Police Department reported that William G. Laperle Jr., 68, of Lunenburg was arrested after he allegedly smoked crack and then fell asleep in a resident’s driveway.

Sergeant Giles reported that at approximately 9:35 p.m., Laperle parked a white 2009 Nissan Versa at the end of the driveway at 110 Highland Street, smoked crack cocaine from a pipe and fell asleep in the driver’s seat.
A resident called 911 within two minutes of noticing the vehicle parked at the end of the driveway.
Sergeant Giles said that when Townsend police woke Laperle up and asked him, “Why you smoking crack?” He replied, “Just took a hit, that was it.”
Laperle was then placed under arrest. During a search of his person incident to his arrest, police allegedly found cocaine folded inside a tissue in the back right pocket of his jeans. The crack pipe was also seized as evidence.
When asked how often he used crack cocaine, Laperle allegedly responded, “a couple of times a week.”
According to Sergeant Giles, a review of Laperle’s criminal history showed he was arraigned in Fitchburg District Court on April 28, 2026, on a charge of possessing a Class B substance (crack cocaine) and was found guilty of the charge on June 2, 2026.
William G. Laperle Jr., 68, of Lunenburg, was charged with the following:
- Possess Class B Drug, Subsequent Offense
Laperle was arraigned in Ayer District Court on July 1, 2026. Following his arraignment, he was released on personal recognizance.
Laperle’s next court date is a pretrial hearing scheduled for Sept. 11, 2026.
