WESTFORD — On Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at approximately 1:07 p.m., Westford police and firefighters were dispatched to the area of 55 South Chelmsford Road following a report that a vehicle had struck a tree.
According to the Westford Police Department, while officers were responding to the scene, dispatchers with Westford Public Safety Communications received multiple 911 calls reporting that the driver had struck two vehicles at the intersection of Littleton and South Chelmsford roads before continuing to drive erratically on South Chelmsford Road, where the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, ultimately causing the tree to block the roadway.
When Westford police and firefighters arrived on scene, they provided immediate medical assistance to the driver, a 74-year-old woman from Chelmsford. Due to the severity of her injuries, the Westford Fire Department determined the woman needed to be transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital. Her condition was not released.
The Westford Police Department reported that South Chelmsford Road remained closed for approximately 90 minutes while police investigated the crash and Westford Public Works personnel removed the tree from the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation by the Westford Police Department’s Patrol and Special Services Divisions.
